"To truth and healing" (M. Weldon)

Last night my SO, her mom and I went to a benefit event (dinner and talk/discussion) for The Second Step, which provides transitional services for families victimized by domestic violence. The highlight was an appearance by Michele Weldon, who wrote a book ("I Closed My Eyes") about her experience as a survivor of domestic abuse. She was eloquent, moving, honest, and even funny at times, and a wonderful example for those still struggling with abusive partners. It was sobering, though, to realize that Weldon, as educated and intelligent as she is, took nine years to break free of her relationship.
