Going to a game!

The wife and I thought we had the holiday weekend all planned out: drive up to NH after work, spend Saturday and Sunday with family, and come back to Boston Monday.

Friday, just as I was getting ready to leave, my boss called me into her office. "Want Red Sox tickets for tomorrow?" she asked. My initial response of joy ("Yay! Tickets!") immediately turned into dismay, and I regretfully turned her down. The next day, as my wife and I struggled with the issues of a not-so-modern house (showers that don't stay hot, faucets that keep losing their handles, etc.), I couldn't help thinking, "I turned down the Sox for this?"

Despite that, we spent a nice Saturday afternoon hanging out with relatives, including some cousins we hadn't seen in a while, and the weather was better than expected, allowing us to do some kayaking. Sunday we woke up to a gray, rainy day, and decided to leave a day early. That paid off in more ways than one; not only did we have less traffic to deal with, but it meant we were home when a friend of ours called and offered us two tickets for tomorrow's Red Sox-White Sox game, between third base and home plate. Even though we need to be up early Tuesday, we jumped at the chance. I figure if Opportunity's going to knock on our door not once but twice, we better let her in!
